Re: [RC] How Do YOUR Endurances Horses Live? - Karen EverhartHi Karen,My personal arrangements: 24 x 7 turn out - free to roam - in a herd environment with plenty of buddies to run and play with Shelter available only as needed and the horses choose when to go in and out - run-in sheds or shelter belts Pasture or hay always present Pasture and hay is what we call prairie grass - warm weather grass, lower protein, lower sugars, less possibility of obesity I own 240 acres and ride it and neighboring pastures as I have no houses near me. I seldom trailer out to just "ride" From a training perspective I feel horses are healthier, happier and fitterin the above circumstances. I don't have to worry about keeping my competition horses in rigorous conditioning program as they are moving and playing all day - 7 days a week. I also have no health issues and great feet. On the other hand they are muddier and exposed to ticks, mosquitoes, snakes, raccoons, and opossums. I would prefer to deal with these things than all the issues (stall vices, contagious diseases, etc.) horses are exposed to when in a stalled situation. Karen Everhart MEd.
