Ok, I have too many horses in general, plus have just bought
a boarding facility to give me even less time to ride my own horses. On top of being extremely broke because
we bought the boarding facility w/o having sold our previous mountain
property.I’ve had some of my
horses up for sale for a while because of all of this or primarily the too many
horses issue and am a little curious about the response I get for one of my
horses.
She is 14 – soon to be 15- which I think of as a great
age for arabs.I’ve had her since she was 7 – at which time she was quite
insane with some mental and physical issues.Physical issues addressed (basically
chiropractic and proper saddle fit), did 3 years of competitive trail and LD to
get the mental game engaged and she is a phenomenal horse. Beautiful, very healthy, forward but very
safe and brave on the trail – I take her out alone whenever I get spare
time.I’ve had vets tell me
she was the best looking horse at a ride.
I would love to be competing her
myself and am
quite confident that she has a long competitive career of multidays
and 50’s ahead of her.The
only reason I am not focusing on her is because at one point I got another
horse who is basically my horse soul mate.We read each other’s minds –
I just can’t conceive of not riding her even if she is a little brat that
pisses everyone else off!
So I get people interested in the first mare – she really
is gorgeous and amazing to watch in motion. And she has endurance, multi-day and
competitive trail experience and will never, ever be a lazy old horse. But as soon as people think about her age,
they suddenly don’t even want to come ride her.I think I have her reasonably priced at
$3500.Is that ridiculous for a
horse of this age?I really don’t
want to see her athleticism going to waste in my pasture.
As much as I will hate to part with her, she should be the
most sellable horse I have since the other’s are green or never been
ridden or need a special owner.
Advice appreciated! If it is unreasonable to expect to sell her, then I will think about
incorporating her into my riding lesson program – although the arena is
not her favorite venue, I think she’d rather do that than nothing.
