Technically speaking you don't need any memberships to compete in
endurance. Just send in the entry and you'll be fine. You will be subjected to
a 1 day membership fee of about 10.00 from AERC but they won't prohibit you
from competing. As for the local club, they cannot bar your entry, they are
just your local endurance resource.
The benefits to joining AERC are just tremendous. They have wonderful
teaching tools, a fab magazine (included in your membership), and will keep all
your ride stats for you. It's a wonderful organization and one you will be
proud to be a part of.
If you want to get your feet wet at a ride before you decide to spend
the 65.00 membership fee, so be it. No problem. Just consider it.
