Re: [RC] Riding alone - Cindy Simmons88

Please everyone remember to wear a whistle...ON YOU. Voices do not carry far and go hoarse quickly.

One of my favorite riding partners is married to and lives with her 'boss' ...(he's a doctor).

Luckily for her he was at home one day when she fell in her living room on 18" Spanish tiles. They lived 1 1/2 hours from a hospital. To make a long story short I will say after 30 years of riding...much of it alone; we often ribboned different loops of 50 miles of trail alone, rode frequently at night and often cross country exploring new options for rides. We were lucky. (They removed a section of her skull so there was room for her brain to swell. Luckily after 2 wks the swelling went down and the skull section was not rejected so she didn't need a plate......).

Yes, we both still ride alone but I value my riding partners.

Did I mention WEAR A WHISTLE PLEASE....

Stacy posted: >>>I'm not scared to ride alone (at least not with a good shot
of vodka in me) but I just don't feel it's a very safe thing to do. If
something happens and I'm laying in the middle of the trail unresponsive,
someone would have to "come upon" me. My horses tend to stay with me (which
is a good thing) instead of running off to the barn or trailer or somewhere
else. Problem with that is no one would know I was in trouble until they
found me which could be hours or not at all. <<<

Not a lot of folks I like to ride with. I prefer to ride alone, even at
rides. Love to find that pocket at a ride where I'm not with the other
competitors. I can't imagine pulling if the person I was riding with at a
ride got pulled, but do understand that every rider is different, and they
need to be comfortable with what they are doing. I trailer to our local
trails, and ride alone 90% of the time. I too, call my hubby, and tell him I
am heading out, and he gets a call when I get back to the trailer. He is
often out of town for work. We live in a very rural location, with our house
1/3rd of a mile away from the closest neighbor. If I were to worry about the
risks of something happening while riding alone and no one finding me, I
should then consider I could have something happen at home and no one would
find me. Many of us drive in rural roads that if there was a single car
accident, could end up off in the brush, or over the edge, with no one
finding us. Shoot, some could slip and fall in the bath tub and hit our
head and not have someone find us for hours, or days, or for those who are
really remote and don't have family and neighbors check on them on a regular
basis for weeks..... We each much weigh what is "safe" for us. Many of us,
that is riding alone. Hopefully those who are uncomfortable doing so, have
some great riding partners to enjoy the trails with.
