And, it don't seem much like friendly yelling either. I think this is just another case where we don't communicate as clearly though writing as speaking. Heidi's right. A "best teacher voice" is simply quiet authority that has enough confidence in it that the student obeys without really questioning whether there's an option. A yelling teacher is like a barking dog...it shows fear. They'll eat you alive if you get frantic.
