[RC] Riding alone - JonniStacy posted: >>>I'm not scared to ride alone (at least not with a good shot of vodka in me) but I just don't feel it's a very safe thing to do. If something happens and I'm laying in the middle of the trail unresponsive, someone would have to "come upon" me. My horses tend to stay with me (which is a good thing) instead of running off to the barn or trailer or somewhere else. Problem with that is no one would know I was in trouble until they found me which could be hours or not at all. <<< Not a lot of folks I like to ride with. I prefer to ride alone, even at rides. Love to find that pocket at a ride where I'm not with the other competitors. I can't imagine pulling if the person I was riding with at a ride got pulled, but do understand that every rider is different, and they need to be comfortable with what they are doing. I trailer to our local trails, and ride alone 90% of the time. I too, call my hubby, and tell him I am heading out, and he gets a call when I get back to the trailer. He is often out of town for work. We live in a very rural location, with our house 1/3rd of a mile away from the closest neighbor. If I were to worry about the risks of something happening while riding alone and no one finding me, I should then consider I could have something happen at home and no one would find me. Many of us drive in rural roads that if there was a single car accident, could end up off in the brush, or over the edge, with no one finding us. Shoot, some could slip and fall in the bath tub and hit our head and not have someone find us for hours, or days, or for those who are really remote and don't have family and neighbors check on them on a regular basis for weeks..... We each much weigh what is "safe" for us. Many of us, that is riding alone. Hopefully those who are uncomfortable doing so, have some great riding partners to enjoy the trails with.
