RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] selenium level - heidiI've heard that a serum selenium level is not accurate. That selenium is stored in adipose tissue and the only way to get an accurate result is to do a punch tissue biopsy. I'd agree that a serum selenium is not accurate, but what is generally run is a whole blood selenium. Because of the incorporation of selenium in cell membranes, this is apparently quite accurate. I've never heard of having to do a tissue biopsy for selenium--not that it isn't done, but it certainly isn't a standard test.
