[RC] LBJ National Grasslands Cleanup Day - Beth LeggieriIf you ride/condition at the LBJ National Grasslands, this post to the Texas Trailriders Journal may be of interest to you. A great way for endurance riders to participate in trail maintenance! *** The TETRA (Texas Equestrian Trail Riding Organization) Group has organized a Clean-Up Day at the Grasslands. It's been 2 years since a major trail project at the Grasslands, so the trails are in need of a major maintenance effort. Clean Up has been scheduled for Saturday, April 29 and will begin at TADRA, main camp, at 8:30 AM. Since the Forest Service will not allow the use of 4-wheel vehicles, the work will be done the "old fashioned way" ? on foot or horseback. We are concentrating on 3 major activities for the trail project: trash pick up, tree trimming and painting the color-coded trail markers. After our work effort, we will have a luncheon at TADRA camp site and are asking participants to bring a side snack or dessert ? "Friends of the Grasslands", TETRA, and a few volunteers will be providing meat and side dishes. Because coordination is required for logistics, work assignments, and head count for food, folks should RSVP at the number noted below. When calling, indicate who, how many, if they plan to bring/ride their horse for clean up ? and, if they need directions, to leave their email address and phone number. Although trash bags, paint, and a few tools will be provided, please encourage folks to bring snippers, loppers and small hand saws for trimming branches (the face slappers) along the trail. And remember to tell a friend or better yet, bring a friend! Hopefully, we can get a lot done and not have to do this again for another 2 years! Your commitment to the park system we all enjoy is greatly appreciated. RSVP to Pam so she knows who is coming on foot or horseback so logistics can be planned. They can call at number below.
