in another post someone mentioned that if the slaughter were stopped and 
somebody couldn't afford the vet to put the animal down they might shoot the 
horse and not knowing how to do it just right might have to do it twice. 
well guess what!!!  i'd much rather have to shoot mine twice (if it came to 
that) than to have them endure auctions, transport and then face a bolt gun 
in uncaring hands.  i've never shot anything living except a snake who 
insisted on going in our hen house and killing hens that he couldn't even 
swallow but i KNOW i'd shoot my horse if i couldn't afford a vet before i'd 
allow him/her to be subjected to becoming a slaughter house horse.  also 
while it may sound cold i totally agree with whoever said if you can't 
afford to have a horse put down and disposed of then you can't afford a 
horse.
