Heck, since I opened my mouth on the Codex thing, why not chime in on this one.

 

I'm all for horse slaughter for human consumption. Why? If we don't have an outlet for people to destroy unwanted or useless horses they will rot away slowly in their backyards. 

 

I have a friend that would take her 30 yr. old blind mare to auction just to spare her the euthanasia. Plus, there is a cost to haul away an animal the was put down with drugs. Some people don't have the money. I don't think they should have the horses either but this is reality.

 

I'm all for transporting these horses safely and humanely but for god's sake, we can't close down the auction barns. There will be more suffering, you just will be spared thinking about it because it'll be in somebody else's back yard. It's my opinion that a 1 or 2 day trip to Canada is a lot less suffering than years of starvation, lameness, etc. before they finally succumb to whatever was ailing them.
