I used to get chased by a Great
Dane when we would start to canter.
I carried a riding crop & yes I would hit the dog &
did on the face. He would subsequently still try to watch
but all I had to do was raise that
crop to him & he stayed away.
I also carry 2-3 fist sized rocks & throw them at dogs.
