Re: [RC] Calories burned riding--advice - Barbara McCrary

The 4 pounds you lost was probably all fluid, but why you gained it all back + 1.....well, when you find out, let me know.  I don't, and can't, exercise as vigorously as I did when I was younger, and the weight just keeps creeping up.  Used to be, our annual 1-week backpack trip was enough to cause about 5-8 pound loss of weight and it helped keep my weight under control.  Since we haven't backpacked in many years, I just don't burn off the calories like I used to, and my meal portions are about 1/3 of what they used to be, too.  One possibility is loss of muscle mass.  Another thing is...I don't have a suitable endurance horse right now and am searching.  When I find one and re-start conditioning rides and competition, maybe the weight will come under control.  Frustrating...I'm grateful to know I'm not alone, however.

I did the Sunflower Classic 75 this weekend in 10:42.  I felt great all day and even felt pretty good Sunday.  For grins and giggles, I weighed myself Sunday AM and had lost 4 pounds.  This morning (Monday) I weighed again and had GAINED 5 pounds.  This is typical for me.  So...what's going on?  What can I do to stop the gain and keep losing the weight?
