Re: [RC] question on choosing a halter/bridle combo - rides2far

Marta, I find the bridles with the bit attachments to be somewhat
awkward,

I've got both. The one with the bit hangers is what I've used the most
and was happy enough with, but the halter still has a browband at the
vetcheck and that seems to itch a lot. Then I got the Zilco that has the
bridle separate from the halter and a browband that connected them.
Unhooking the browband was too awkward to deal with at vet checks, the
loop idea that connects the bridle & halter looks quicker.

Lately though, I'm liking less and less on my horse's head. Just more
stuff to itch. If he's itching when I stop, he's not drinking. So right
now I'm leaning towards the separate bridle on top of the halter, and I
may ask them to make a throatlatch so when I'm training I don't have to
even bother with the halter. I can't remember the last time I tied a
horse when out on a ride. Right now on Gunner I've just got an English
hack with a headstall that I removed the browband from (it was too short
and pulling the sides towards his eyes) Don't like that since the bridle
slides down his neck. Is there a reason we don't make the western type
one eared headstalls?

Angie
