RE: [RC] question on choosing a halter/bridle combo - Jannelle Wilde & Adam Falk
I purchased mine from Hought endurance I
have the type with the bit hangers that clip on to the bridal combo. This
makes it really easy to drop the bit at any time an have a very small thing to
clip on to the saddle or my belt. I use the reins as a lead rope if I need to
do this on the trail. It is also eaiser if you have a horse that likes to put
their head up when bitting because you do not have to get your hand over the
top of the head. I clip on one side and she opens her mouth and I swing the
bit in place, no teeth banging or head tossing. I like brass over stainless,
and I have been using the spring / scissor clips. I have not had any trouble,
but could see an issue if the rub a lot and catch it on something. I just make
sure that the thumb portion of the clip is pointed out so that it does not poke
her. Hope this helps.

a halter/bridle combo
i recently started riding my mare in a bit again (for the last 3 years
we've been using a bitless bridle). i really like the feel and i would like to
use the bit on the rides. i started searching through halter/bridle combos but
i can't quite decide which style to choose. there are so many. some w/ bit
clipons, others that are literally 2 separate pieces (aren't the chances
of getting rubs a lot higher w/ all those straps?). and then there are
gizzilion types of clips.
so what do i look for and why? i would like for this headpiece to keep the bit
in the proper position while providing me w/ an easy way to take the bit out of
her mouth during vet checks/rest stops.
thanks for your input!
