Re: [RC] Shoot the Clones - Sky RanchConcerning the "health flaw" I was speaking of -- from what I've read about clones, especially Dolly the ewe, there are flaws, or defects, due to the cloning process itself. There are health problems that the clone can have, defective organs, whatever, that the original animal does not have. I certainly have no problem with scientific research regarding cloning, and think there could be tremendous benefits. However, I still would not agree that cloned horses (or dogs, cats, any animal) should be registered. Oh, and yes, I do know the Jockey Club only recognizes live cover for TBs. They're kind of old fashioned that way, thinking a mare should actually be bred by the stallion ... Only live covers are allowed under Jockey club rules.Cloned animals have serious health flaws (not just the obvious ethical flaws!), and I doubt that the cloned horses will perform as well astheir"source." And of course, don't forget environment and training...Considering that a cloned animal is genetically identical to its ancestor, it will have exactly the same "flaws" as that ancestor. That being the case, it makes it a whole heap more reliable as a predictor of genetic traits than breeding!!
