Ditto for me. Can't stand salty foods. My BP has been as low as 86/55 and I was fine. These days, with middle age and all that goes with it, it usually runs more like 92/60 or occasionally as high as 100/66 or something like that...usually when I'm really scared spitless at a doctor's office or about to go under anethesia for surgery. <G> I do have a tendency to get lightheaded fairly easily in everyday life, and nearly always pass out when I try to stand up after giving blood (they won't even let you give blood unless your bp is at least 90/60...mine will usually hit that due to terror of the needle LOL). I've often wondered if my lowish bp contributes to me getting sick during hot humid rides, etc. I *try* to stay hydrated, but I know I end up in a deficit (simply from how few times I pee). Don't know if a person's bp plays a part in how well they handle temp. extremes or not.

I was raised in the mountains of Colorado and have always though it was because of the fact that is it dry there and we did not use salt. My dad worked at Martin Marietta and I got to go to work with him one night the salt tablet dispensers are the only thing I remember. I currently live in the humid Midwest and still do not care for salt and sometimes I have to force myself to take a tablet or eat something salty to keep from going into heat stroke. Hey all you doctor's out there is there a connection between low blood pressure, low temperature and low metabolism? But then, I have low blood pressure, sometimes dropping as low as 90/40, so I'm not too worried about the effect on my heart....and maybe it's why I crave the salt???
