RE: [RC] Low Tech and electrolytes--Now & Peeing Alot - heidiYep...see my reply to Angie, which I just forwarded to the list...it apparently didn't make it to RC the first time. A horse that only pees once during a 50 is cause for concern, IMO. I would agree. That said, there is a difference between a horse peeing because he is well-hydrated and is simply maintaining the body's status quo, and one that is having to get rid of excess e-lytes that somebody not understanding his physiological processes has stuffed into him. In the latter case, he is creating a hydration deficit IN ADDITION to what he sweats out, and is having to drink even more to keep up with it. And that is not healthy, either. Again, bottom line, KNOW what your horse is doing--don't just add e-lytes because somebody preached it at the pre-ride meeting.
