RE: [RC] Study on electrolyte/ulcers - heidiI agree...it does start to sound a bit like that sometimes. My horses have never stopped eating because of elytes...in fact, they generally go right back to eating whatever they were eating. Count yourself lucky. I've seen too many to count, who, following a big dose of e-lytes, have not only stopped eating but have in some cases gone on to cramp and/or colic as a result. Again, I'm NOT trying to say that "all electrolyting is bad"--I'm simply trying to underscore that it is important to know exactly WHAT is going on with your horse, and WHY he should (or should not!) receive e-lytes at any given time. The norm in this sport is that if a horse has any problems, throw more e-lytes at him. And in my experience, that not only often exacerbates the problems, but also causes people to miss the real reasons for the problems altogether.
