I thought he had enough water to drink, but apparently this was not the case. Barbara Bingo! You just put your finger on one of the hazards. This was addressed at the MRER Convention. Due to the chemistry of how nutrients and electrolytes are absorbed into the system, if you add salt to a stomach that doesn't have much water in it, it will pull water out of the bloodstream into the stomach/intestines to dilute the salt. This can further dehydrate an already-dehydrated horse.
