RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] Study on electrolyte/ulcers - heidiI might have missed this in the discussion someplace so please forgive me if I did. What are the signs of a horse needing e-lyting? I have done up to 20 miles of trot/canter trails so far (haven't made it to a ride yet) and have never e-lyted my horse. I do plan on at least doing 50's with this guy and maybe 100's so I would like to know what to watch for so I know if he needs them to help perform better. After the 20 miles we did a couple weeks ago he was down in the 40's (hr) in about 10 mins and was tearing into his hay and beetpulp, still very energetic and ready to go. If a horse is eating and drinking voraciously, and if you can find no pain issues, and if he is in condition to do what you've just done with him, and he has pulse issues or CRI issues, then e-lytes would be a logical bet. If he is not eating well, consider energy issues instead. If he is not drinking well, give him an opportunity to sort it out by long slow days in the saddle before trying to force him to drink with e-lytes. If he has pain issues, deal with those based on the individual problems.
