Re: [RC] Putting on Easy Boots!!! - Elana RiedelI tried the easy boot epics and they seem to stay on well, but the first time I used them I left them on overnight (on the advice of my vet) and by the next morning my mare had eaten both of the gaitors! I'm guessing that she was bored and figured that she would invent a new game of removing these new "things" from her legs. She chewed the velco completely off of one boot (so it can't be closed), and chewed the other boot through the material. Too bad epic's warranty doesn't cover being eaten by your horse. It was an expensive lesson to learn since new gaitors run $20 each. To remove the pull strap, just run it through the corrugated back strap without a half-hitch. When the boot is properly seated, pull one end and it slips right out. The corrugated backstrap should not be placed over the bulb of the heel, and the ankle straps hold the boot on well. The one horse we are using the Epics on is a chronic front shoe-puller, and so far, he cannot pull the Epics off his front feet. With the gaiter attached to the boot itself there isn't any edge or ridge for the horse to hook his hind foot onto. this same horse could easily pull off a regular EZ Boot. Well, after all of my research I have finally ordered and received four easyboot epics. This morning I spent 45 minutes and one pulled arm muscle getting those suckers on! I must say, they did look good once on, but holy canoly it was a job and a half. I am curious about the nylon pull straps that they come with . Do people use these in general. I must say Not only did I find them useless (I only used it with the first boot and took them off the other 3) but also I have no idea how they expect you to remove the pull strap after getting the boot on. Maybe this is easier accomplished if you don't have the gator. I never did get the pull strap off of the one boot I did use it on - as far as I can see it would be impossible. Also, how are you supposed to tell where that rubber back strap is sitting when you have gators on? I couldn't tell, I think they were Ok!?!
