[RC] Epics - WRSINOSKY

From: "Karen Sullivan" <greymare56@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>
Subject: Re: [RC]?? [RC] Putting on Easy Boots!!!

*Note on the epics....I just cut out the heel strap; remove clear covers,
mash down the metal prongs and cover with a couple layers of Duct tape..been
using the epice since Nov. 05 with very good results.? Of course, there is a
wealth of info on Karen Chaton's easyboot pages..she has really tested out
the epics (as well as Terry Bannister).

Some problems can arise if the boots are sort of an inbetween size...we are
using mesh inserts we cut out of an ULTI pad (National Bridle Shop) and
Easycare also sells a foam insert....

A Karen Chaton trick that helps to get them on is to wet the gaiter the
night before and fold back to dry; so they are out of the way when you put
them on...my trick is to put the boots in the sun for maybe 10 minutes; they
go on much better when warm. I also still like to tap them on with a hammer
instead of twisting or pulling....

Excellent advice!  The sun trick is really true!  One morning before a ride I tried putting the boots on in the cold. They had sat out all night and seemed to have shrunk. Dummy me!  I couldn't figure out why I was having all these problems. From then on I put them in the truck with me and sit them beneath the heater in the morning for a few minutes before putting them on. I also removed the cleat covers and mashed down the cleats. As they get "broken in" the gaitor will get easier to fold back.  I also bought some neophrene pads for use under sleeping bags in WalMart and cut out pads to line the easyboots. It works great.
