Re: [RC] How did you get started? - Jon . LindermanDidn't grow up with horses. I grew up plying the beaches of SoCal. Rednecks owned horses (or so I trhought!). I was one of those evil bikers training in the hills of NorCal & raced until '99 when health forced me off the bike. After serving a 5 year sentence at Ohio State (University that is) I married a wonderful woman who had those crazy ay-rabs. I heard about distance riding & knew I wanted to try it. Bought an arab/asb cross in 2000 and hung onto his neck for 20 LONG miles in 2001in our 1st CTR & set about learning to ride & seeking the right advice. First 50 in 2003, first 100 in 2005. About 1500 miles thus far & craving new adventures and meeting new people. Now we race standardbreds, I shoe horses, and have been a 7-time Trail Boss including AHA CTR Nats. in '04. Guess you could say I am hooked on horses in general, endurance in particular, & recant my "only redneck's owned horses" theory of my impetuous SoCal youth Lectured in class today dressed in jeans, ariats, and a big 'ol distance riding buckle.
