Re: [RC] question about thermal imaging - Truman PrevattInfrared radiation is below the visible spectrum and is associated with heat. Sensors that detect infrared radiation are quite common. However, there are some issues with infrared images that can present problems. For example a horse with a black coat that has been in the sun will glow for a long time and mask any information. You can't use it on a bright day because the background level is too high. Any source of heat will be detected - those that should be there and those that should not - so one has to know in great detail the blood flow, etc. of the horse. It can be a useful tool, but it requires a lot of experience to interpret.I can tell you that it takes a lot of training to train a photo interpreter to be able to interpreter IR images and even then there is a lot of uncertainity in the interpretation.
