RE: [RC] [RC] broken bone screws & returning to riding - terry banisterWell, I broke my hip being thrown from a horse in 1997, and the ER Dr. happened to be an orthopedic surgeon who decided I was too young for a hip replacement (broke the ball right off the top of the bone), so he put it back together with three long screws and gave me a 25% chance of it working. I was back in the saddle in about three months, and a year later, had the screws removed. Just need a saddle with a narrow twist, and I have mostly forgotten it ever happened.Six weeks is the normal time for bone healing, then you may require some PT, but in the meantime, if it feels OK and if you have a good crew and a good horse, I know you are good enough to ride with one hand. . . Maybe they could put on a temporary cast to prevent you from being tempted to use it too much. Good luck!
