[RC] Spongy, soft, blackish "divet" - Patti KuvikCould be from an injury or abcess? I like Animalintex poultice pads. Can be used wet/hot to draw, then dry (to not over soften the hoof) as a dressing under a wrap (it will continue some drawing action when used dry). http://www.robinsoncare.com/Animalintex.htm You can cut the pad into smaller pieces to fit the area. Can get it from online catalogs or feed/tack stores. I'd also clip and gently probe a little to see if he got something in there (thorn, stick, etc.). Patti Kuvik Vail AZ From: "Erica R. DeVoti" <ponyxprss@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: Re: [RC] [RC] Hoof Crack While on the topic of hoof cracks, I have noticed a spongy, soft, = blackish "divet" at the coronary band and front hoof wall of my gelding. = Any ideas what this could be or have resulted from and if it could = affect soundness? It doesn't seem to be getting any better and not sure = if I should try to treat it in some way. Thanks.
