The characteristics some non-arab breeds bring to the table are:steadiness, sensibility, take-care-of-themselves, sturdy conformation and others. Not that arabians can't/don't have those same characteristics! Mustangs can do very well but they can require more horsemanship skills, especially if the horse was born in the wild. In my experience with Spanish Mustangs, they are not as people oriented as domestic breeds. Since you will be spending many hours with your horse, I'd look for the breed/breeds that you get along well with. Have fun finding just the right horse!
