I suspect that while the journalism may have been a little shakey - the 
issue is not the journalism but the fact that to the UAE there is litte  
difference be flat track TB racing and endurance racing. In their 
perspective the only difference is the distance covered. Closely akin to 
human track and field. The 100 meter, 400 meter and mile are just 
different events in the sport. That seems to be how endurance is viewed 
in the UAE - a different event in horse racing. Viewed that way the 
article makes sense.
