Re: [RC] Lengthening the walk stride - gingerodgersNancy, I had a horse, a little arab, that had a walk that needed working on. To help this situation, I would ride with a fast walking horse. At first, he would try to trot up. At these times, I would ask him to walk with tightened legs around him. It took alot of time and patience but ultimately he picked his pace and is now the leader of the pack, well, most of time. I guess there is always a horse out there than can outwalk another. This Standardbred gelding does lengthen his stride when I "bump" him with alternate legs, but as soon as I let up encouraging him, he shortens his stride again. He also slows down if I praise him verbally or touch his neck in praise. There's a possibility that he's just not fit enough yet to keep up a nice long-strided walk, but I'd be happy to hear suggestions. Nancy Sturm Nancy Sturm nsturm@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Why Wait?
