[RC] On topic: Cross training my endurance horse - Cindy CollinsThought I'd get back on getting ready for the ride season. I had a wonderful day that I thought I'd share. My dressage instructor (who is an eventer) does something she calls "dressage outside the box." She does group dressage lessons on her cross country jumping course. Wyoming's weather cooperated enough today for us to have one of these clinics. It was cloudy, but the weather was in the high 30s and low 40s. Most importantly, there was no wind (a rare occurrence here). I was able to ride for a couple of hours total and it was wonderful training for my coming 6 year old gelding. He needs as much work on control, lateral movement, etc. as possible. He tends to be a little hot. Anyhow, that's part of what I do in the winter to keep my horses in a little shape (me, too). Most of the time we have to do our dressage lessons in an indoor arena after school, but today was one of those wonderful experiences that i wanted to share. I hate arenas, so when I can be outdoors and still be working on control issues, it's great. What about the rest of you?
