[RC] Colonials in Australia - Splitters Creek ASHSHeidi wrote: Just want to make the point that the Australian "Colonial" horses are very much the same thing as America's "CMK" horses. But in Australia, the Colonial breeding has remained the mainstay of their national gene pool until fairly recently, whereas here, the CMK lines have been outcrossed and outcrossed and outcrossed to the point that there only remains about 5% of our American Arabian population that has sufficient CMK blood to qualify as being CMK. Hi Heidi, I have been lurking on the list for about 2 weeks and have enjoyed the varied debate. I found your website very interesting, in particular the articles about breeding old mares - I seem to be doing a lot of that. I am a Colonial 'preservation' breeder in Australia. Although I have only breeding 5 years, my stud is founded on Les Ellery's Cudglebar Arabians - Australia's oldest Colonial breeder (now in his 80's) - Les & his family have been breeding almost 75 years. All of Les' stock traces back to Blunt bloodlines & a couple of relative contemporaries such as Sala (imp UK) from the Courthouse Stud and the stallion Shahzada (imp UK). Les never included 'modern' Crabbet blood generally attributed to the work of Lady Wentworth and no other outside blood. My website has photos of my colonial stallions: Hyksos Benjamin, SC Sultan, SC Centaur at www.users.bigpond.com/splitterscreek Regards Catherine (whose nickname is Heidi).
