I have seen packers put a knot in the end of the
tail with a lite rope and run it between the hind legs to the cinch. Not
short enough to bother the ridden horse, but will keep the halter rope from
getting caught under the tail. Seems to work well.
Any one of us who has ponied horses off the
one we are riding has experienced the "rope under tail" problem. I have
often thought of creating some sort of "rump rug" made of heavy duty netting for
the horse being ridden. If this "rug" hangs down far enough.....say down
to the bottom of the butt, wouldn't this prevent the rope from getting under his
tail? The netting would be very flexible and would adjust to the horse
taking a pit stop. I'm thinking something like volleyball netting, or
maybe this is too heavy. I can't remember how heavy that kind of netting
is. Anyone have a thought about this?
