Re: [RC] Maybe shorter is better ;) - Truman PrevattWhen riding my mare (16 hands) I watched plenty people have to swim their horses across deeps holes in swampy rides. While I kept my feet dry on her neck, they were soaked waist down. On the other hand on one ride - a cold ride - I was getting very cold at the 95 mile mark so I says self get off and walk to warm up. Of course my keens were stiff by then and there wasn't a stump, log, ditch, etc. in site to get me a little advantage after I decided to get back on. I ended up walking the last five miles.Moral - all other things being equal it comes down to preference. Truman PS: I'd rather walk than be soaked to the waist. kazevedo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: Our family just got a 14 hand Halfinger, and boy do I love riding him. He feels like a big horse when riding him, and I don't mind getting on and off either! He has a very big walk, but his trot is quite a bit slower than our 15 hand arab. -- “Many people consider the things government does for them to be social progress but they regard the things government does for others as socialism.” Earl Warren =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
