[RC] Butt Hight (was: Arabian "Type") - k s swigartBeccy in Ut said: He is very well proportioned, a bit on the down his side but that is really the only flaw he has. Had his withers caught up to his croup, he would be 15' 2". .... Mine could have been stallion material... Actually, I don't know many people who would consider a horse that is butt high (croup higher than withers) to be "very well proportioned" and even fewer who would consider such a one to be stallion material. In almost all breeds (and especially the Arabian) it is considered to be a major flaw, even in Quarter Horses, who kind of expect their horses to have a downhill build (the QH people want the withers and croup to be the same height, the Arabian people generally expect the withers to be higher than the croup, although personally, I think this is a mistake, but not as bad of a mistake as the other way around:)). Butt hight certainly isn't a conformation trait I would look for in an endurance horse (actually, it isn't a conformation trait anybody looks for in a horse as it is considered to seriously limit the horse's athletic potential). I have no idea if/whether the cause of this has anything to do with the fact that this particular horse is taller than to old "type" because somebody was selecting for height and got it wrong. It could easily be entirely environmental.???? :) This horse might do just fine, despite his butt highness; however, it isn't a trait that many people would want to pass on....so it is just as well that he is a gelding :). kat Orange County, Calif. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
