Re: [RC] Plastic Shoes info.? - Truman PrevattI tried Equiflex on my horse last spring. My farrier has been around the block quite a few time and has no problems putting on plastic shoes correctly. The first setting I really liked them. So I decided to do a real ride on them. They were reset and off we go to Kentucky to LBL. He did great on them in the ride. It was a bit wet there not to mention rolling into the wet season when we got back home. When we pulled the shoes the second time, there was a noticiable flaring on the feet. My farrier said he has noticed that happening with plastic shoes in FL. He cleaned up the foot and we went back to steel after that. They seem to work fine on some horses under some conditions. However, they don't seem to be the correct solution to all horses under all conditions. So give them a try, but watch for tale-tell signs of the hoof breaking up around the nail, flaring, etc. I do suspect, however, if there is a rule of thumb it is wet environmental conditions and plastic shoes don't mix well. All disclaimers apply and your mileage may vary. Truman
