By the way, a number of years ago the Western Horseman had an article on the proper way to put a horse down with a firearm. You make an imaginary "X" on the horses head from the eyes to the base of the ears, that is the proper spot for the shot. While larger is definately better, a shot placed there will do the job reliably.
