RE: [RC] [RC] LTE - Tucson Citizen this morning - Laurie Durgin

There is a trail, next to the Silver Comet in Ga. in my county that is supposed to be a horse trail, (heard they won't maintain the horse part or let others as the county dot wants to use that as some kind of leverage to get more workers--sigh--it is 10 minutes from my house, and I used to have other trails--- But I digress--and the rules posted say, you have to remove any manure your horse deposits--which means I guess, you have to dismount and kick it off, the bike/people part. You also have to dismount when you cross the bridges that are being built over roadways and the trestle(like 50+ feet up). I rode part of it once, before theypaved 4" down the middle(of course)--they then put a horse part below it I think--I hadn't checked it out, as no one seems to want to ride it--heard bikers were trying to ram someone once--That and the other horse trail (11) miles nearby, a battlefield, you have to cross a very heavily trafficked road if you wnat to rid emore than 5 miles of it, and you share that with subdivision people with strollers, joggers, bikes and dogs.

Riders should clean up after horses
Generally, I am all for multiuse of our beautiful mountain trails. But as a
cyclist, I have one gripe about horses. It is what they leave behind. We all
must leave only footprints (or tire tracks) and take only pictures.Even dog
owners clean up after their pets. Why is it OK for a horse to make a pile on a
trail and the owner leave it? Horse riders should be required to clean up messes
their animals make.- GREGG HLAVACEK

Lee
".......and God sought to bestow upon man a supreme mark of his blessing. God
created the horse. The horse could run faster than the deer, jump higher than
the goat, and endure longer than the wolf. Man, being encompassed by elements
that sought to destroy him, would have been a slave, had the horse not made
him king."
