[RC] Handheld HRM -Correct Use - Roger Rittenhouse

See this has come up again.
Same issues every time. The TOOL is fine very accurate. When used CORRECTLY, it will read the SAME as a stethoscope.

I wrote this up many times, its also on my web site.

Truman, my un-paid technical adviser, said most of it.

I DO NOT recommend using the handheld transmitter with the watch attached. WHY.. the reader will place the unit on the side of the horse so THEY can read the watch that is strapped on or hard attached to the handle.
THAT MAY NOT be the CORRECT place for the transmitter on the horse.
MOST need the transmitter placed LOW on the side where the chest rounds.

SOME need it turned 180 deg.. so if the watch was hard attached.. you cant see the watch.
Where the monitor watch on the wrist, DO NOT wear any analog electric watch -- it will read 60.

This tool has been verified more times then I can count since 1990.. When used correctly it will read the same as the scope.

It was used 100% at the FEI NAC 4 years ago and two AERC NC with no problems.
The use of this tool is no different the correct use of the scope .. as lub-dub is ONE not two.. It is the USER that is doing something wrong NOT the tool

The technical issue Truman addressed is the T wave of the EKG which follows the base QRS pulse wave. SOME horse's T wave will be strong enough to override the clamping signal level of the transmitter, and show TWO blinks or double the actual HR.
The fix is to place the electrode contacts someplace else on the horse where the EKG electrical impulse is weaker. The T wave will not be detected. The HR will be accurate/correct

I DO really now what I am talking about???
