RE: [RC] LD BC - heidiIf an LD ride has 50 or more riders, as ours once did, and speed is not to be a factor (i.e., choosing from the top 10), then it IS too much work for the vet to select from a large number of riders. Maybe LD rides are not this well attended any more, but they were several years ago. Barbara, I agree. Which is why so many of us favor just going ahead with the AERC BC for LD. There is ample evidence that the use of the Top Ten criterion does NOT cause the sky to fall--nor does it even cause people to race. But what I have heard quoted from your region is that some vets even think that judging the Top Ten is an imposition. And that was what Paul was facetiously referring to.... Heidi PS: I HAVE judged ALL the entries of an LD for an "excellence" award--on a ride that had somewhere around 70-90 entries, as memory serves. And that IS a time-consuming task--if that is the way that people want to go, then RMs would really have to go to the expense of hiring an extra vet who pretty much only does that, once the LD riders begin to finish. And I doubt that they want to go to the expense--nor do I think that the LD riders would necessarily want to have that cost passed on. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
