I have within 7 miles of my house two good dressage instructors - one grand prix level . Both trail ride their horses. One lives right next to the state forest and regularly takes her horses on the trail She also uses her horses of the Sheriff's Civilian Mounted Unit. One lives right next to the forest I train in. In fact I've taken a lesson from her and then she saddles up and we hit the trails. I will tell you her big Olenburg "Special" can spook with the best of them. Right now my new horse Avanti is getting his basic training in the dressage ring. He's also getting his training on the trail. It will probably take about a year to get him where I want him to be an endurance horse. On the other hand I am a stickler for preparation and training. I'm too old to deal with a horse that doesn't have his basics down - but I'm not to old to have the patients necessary to make a good horse - or least one I want to ride 50 miles.
