Re: [RC] novice class, LD taken seriously etc. - Dream WeaverAt 09:06 AM 11/19/2005, Jody Rogers-Buttram wrote:* The awards are the same for all three distances. This one bugs me, when I ride a 100 miler and get the same little bucket or lead line that someone that rode 25 miles get. Maybe this is just a personal quirk of mine, but seems a bit unfair. I think that the awards should reflect the effort put into it. This is effort from the rider a! nd the horse. And I don't care what anybody out here thinks...but a horse that can do a 100, is a far better athlete than one that can only do a 25 or a 50. He must be tougher. That is definitely true! The one most hilarious thing that I ever remember was there was once a letter in EN from a LD rider complaining about the 'cheezy' award they had gotten. You know, they had done all that work to ride their horse a whole 25 miles and they got this apparently awful award. Well, I had gotten that same award for riding the 100. It kind of makes you sad that the person riding the 25 had not yet figured out why we do this sport. I have also more than once done a 100, or a 75 and the next morning, yep, all of the awards given out were given first choice to the LD riders so the longer distances got the leftovers. They also got to eat a meal that I probably didn't get the night before ;) They didn't have to get up as early either. But they also didn't get to ride like I did! I try to think of the awards as I use them, or see them and have the memories of the rides (and the photos <g>), and that is what makes it mean something.
