RE: [RC] Hyponatremia - Kristen A FisherI would say overhydrated, just because she got the normal amount of lytes, but drank probably ~25% more than she usually does. But I want to emphasize, this was a very *minor* experience. I do not believe she was truly hyponatremic or in danger from the extra water she drank. I am extremely overcautious and if there's the slightest question in my mind, I'll go ask a vet - we had 5 great ones [2 were riders] 100 yards away. And I also want to reiterate I'm not certain what her blood chemistry was; I am just saying for her on that day, she might have drank more than she needed. SO I learned from it! The way I understand it, the mix is important and it's better to have the right "mix" and less of it than to have extra water that dilutes the mix (intracellular fluid?) Very simple layman (my) visual image. Am I right in that thinking? If this horse had the electrolytes in it...would this same amount of water have been "to much"? =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
