I do prefer rides with more organization, particularly pulse lanes. In this day of cheap digital watches, the pulse taker can have the exact ride time and enter the time on the card. The same with the in timers and the out timers. This eliminates all the confusing shouting about in the vet check. The pulse-taker may not know the time the horse was presented, especially if there are more horses presenting for checking than there are pulse-takers. The proper time is the time the horse was presented, not the time the pulse-taker finishes verifying the pulse. The best, easiest and most accurate way to do this is to have one person recording the time each horse enters the pulse-taking area. That is the time the horse gets if the pulse is verified down. You can have multiple lanes but there needs to be one well-marked "gate" where you bring your horse through to be checked, and the time you pass through that gate is your time, no matter how long it takes the personnel to verify your pulse. With a few stakes and some flagging this is trivially easy to do, and solves so many problems. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
