Having been a competitive long distance
runner, marathon runner, ride-n-tie, etc., 20+ years ago, I have to tell you
how refreshing the concept “to finish is to win” is to a newbie to
endurance. I have found a sport where at 40+, with a young and fit horse,
the road seams to lie ahead of me rather than behind. I am preparing for
my first (hopefully of many) season of endurance competition, and believe me I
will approach this with the spirit and belief that “to finish is to
win”!
Should we prove competitive along the way,
and be declared a “winner”, then what a nice bonus!
P.S: In my opinion, the true winner
in any equestrian event is always The Horse.
There's nothing better for the soul of a man than the outside of a
horse.
