I just got my 185#, almost intermediate
rider, hubby a 16", full quarter tree, Big Horn cordura endurance saddle
for our wide Arab. They are inexpensive, can usually be bought used for between
$250 - $$375, and as long as it fits the horse well, no problems. It gives
him plenty of stability which could be improved even more with a
fleece seat cover, and, is comfortable enough for him to enjoy 3 hour rides
with me.
