Re: [RC] 88 WEC Trail - Lynne GlazerJMO, don't anyone get their drawers in a twist. Seems to me that the venue of Aachen (Germany) for the next WEC sorta takes care of things somewhat. It won't be a desert race. The one in France wasn't a desert race. Wasn't the one in the Netherlands flat? Can't wag a finger at UAE money for either of those two. When run on the flat, this is not "our" sport any more - it's something different. It takes "specialists" to do well at it. I don't think you can tug the emerati-style races back into resembling our sport. Seems like any sport that has become a "rich man's game". Anyone who can afford the finest tools and has the most accomplished operators and crew will likely do well. Like yachting, though ships don't die on the job. Auto racing, you don't see backyard guys doing that either, not F1 and not NASCAR--different circuits for regular folks. I don't want to have a national team such as the Soviets used to have, where the children went to sports institutes, it makes this stuff of way too much chest-thumping national importance; anyway we're too busy spending money on spreading our troops thinly around the globe "defending democracy".
