[RC] The Finish (a summary) - John Teeter

[Note: I was furiously sending email to ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx -- all of which
bounced.
      just as well, as now you get the edited version:)

Now we get a better pict of the leader. he's #11 and riding
easy. Horse looks strong and forward. #61 is pulling into a strong
second #7 sticking with her. I dont think they'll catch #11 - but this
whole time they have been flat out trying. They are not too far back
now. #11 looks like the clear winner. The horses are giving it all --
the riders are asking for it and more. there is visually a clear
differenciation between #11 and #61/#7 - a much more fluid stride and
loft to the gait.

one more post .. maybe

Lucy took some nice images of them taking off on Loop 5:

There is a REAL horse race for the gold. Barbara Lissarague from france just
PASSED the leaders - it will be a run for the GOLD - yikes!!

====
There is a sprint - 9km to the finish - there must be 100 cars following along.

The horses are showing the stain it loosk like

====

It's hard to figure out who's in what place. #61 is leading #7 by
about 4 lengths. #1 seems to be maybe 100yds in front, #7 just passed
61 ... (interesting to hear the play by play (although it's in arabic)

jt.

====
IT's still a horse race (and they are pushing them now) - Still can't see the
first
place horse - all the coverage is back at the #61.vs.#7 battle. #1 is running
easy --
I gotta say, they are asking too much of these horses at this point. and they
are giving
it. I'm seeing lots of head dipping. maybe it's #11 in the (#3 WAS WAS JUST
PULLED - THAT
MIGHT BE A TEAM PLACEMENT SHIFT).

====
Water on the necks #11 running easy in front now. #7 in second - now
#61 - it's a full canter this whole time ... brief words between
Barbara and #7 as they passed. opened up a 5 lenght lead. #7 is
closing it. now passing .. these ponies are tired - I'm betting they
settle for a tie b/f too long. -- nah - this is the world
championships.

another 4 lenght lead to #62 - The background filled with vehicles
watching the drama.

====

now #7 leads into the last water stop and they have passed #1 (and are
now in 2/3 position - cann't tell re: the distance back form #11. it's
11/61/7 right now. they will likely not stop at the last water. it's
@5km in from that point. #1 is now 200 yd's back - 61/7 are battleing
-- they are at the last water stop and onto the home stretch track.

11 is 100 yrds out. #61 is 50yds back #7 another 100 behind.

A flag was handed to the leader (a violation - but hey :) still a strong canter
with flag flowing It Is Done

#11 HE Sh Hazza Bin Sultan Al Nahyan UEA crosses the finish line
       first in the 2004 WEC.
#61 Barbary Lissarague of France is second
#7 HH Sh Mohd Bin Rashid Al Maktoum of the UAE is third.

.....

now for the criteria and final evaluation ..... the suspense indeed.

more on the team and rest of the finish soon (sorry for the saturation
of  the in boxes!!)

================

Just a note: #7 has not quite crossed the line yet. He's trotting in (nice
looking horse at a trot - but he's being pushed a bit as #1 is still back
there...) I might have called it too soon!!
