I had a Missouri Fox-Trotter as a teenager and knew
nothing about endurance riding at the time. I usually rode alone though
and now realize we mostly did what I do now. She was an incredible
horse. She could slow-gait and fast-gait(forgive me MFT people if I call
these the wrong thing). She could also trot and had the best canter I have
ever ridden. I love my Arab but as my back gets older, I have toyed with
the thought of getting another Fox-Trotter. She seemed to never
tire. As I recall also, when I rode with friends, she was the last to
"lather up" There is a lot of talk about the Kentucky Mountain Horse also
being gaited and well-suited to our sport. I think there could be plenty
of options in the gaited horse for those who want a little different
ride. Just my ponderings. Cathryn
