[RC] Hello (fwd) - Michelle Kendrickhello, I'm new to the group, just getting in to endurance riding. I have two horses currently a 19 year old arab, who is ridden mostly by my husband and 13 year old daughter and then I have my black thoroughbred, Elvis. He is five and an off the track horse, and is just getting to the point that I can trust him on just about anything on the trail. (this is after many a battle, a coaxing, a natural horseman rub, a hissy hit, an ad in dreamhorse to sell him). We've done 20 milers this summer and he has crossed rivers, long weird bridges over gullies; he's even sorted cows a couple of times! (shoulda seen the looks the quarter horse folks gave me when i brought my 16 hand skitty horse in with the cows). I've ridden western pleasure and show - my entire conscious life. I love the trails, but miss competing, so I'm looking forward to endurance riding. I know Thoroughbreds are not the most popular choice, but I think he'll give it his all. I've been following this list for sometime now, and just bought an australian endurance saddle for Elvis. We hope to be in a fall 25 miler to start with. I live in Oregon and board near portland, by Powell Butte. I would love to have a mentor or someone near by to ride with. thanks, Michelle -- _______________________________________________________________ Michelle R.
