RE: [RC] Good Dog - CharlesI'm coming in late, but my Jake is a great
dog. The pound told me he was a boxer mix. He looked like it was
possible. Now, he has the body to a Australian cattle dog, and a English
Staffordshire Terrier. He goes after mice. He is the fun police in
the barn. I have seen him try to "discipline" a horse that wasn't acting
up. He has the desire, the sad thing is he doesn't really have the
talent. He keeps horses in that I want to go out, etc.
As a companion he is great. He goes
with me everywhere and generally never wanders out of sight. If he thinks
I'm leaving the house, he runs outside and waits for me. If I close him in
the Porch, he climbs over the gate and follows me. In some ways he's a
tyrant.
Another dog to consider is a Pug. One
of the guys who works here got one. This pug runs non stop. We have
a Doberman, Jake, and a JRT. The pug can hold his own. He runs at
the horses and tries to chase the chickens (who tower over him
incidentally). I have seen him run at the goats. He knows how to get
out of the way. He will bite the Dobermans ear and hang on. To see
him jump from the sofa to the lazyboy is quite a sight. He can run a good
distance too. I drove the Polaris over to a neighbors, and the Pug came
running after me. He ran at least the length of a football field, and
non-stop from the looks of it. If small size isn't an issue, then you
might want to consider a Pug.

PS: I lost my Boxer in 2003, and I still miss
him. I wish he'd made it to this farm. From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Diane Conklin Sent: Tuesday, September 06, 2005 9:03 AM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [RC] Good Dog
